Krysten is a level 10 gymnast who trains at The Colony
Gymnastics Academy in The Colony, Texas.  She will be
graduating from John Horn High School in Mesquite, TX  in
June, 2008.
At the 2008 JO Nationals Krysten placed 3rd on
beam and 14th overall.
Krysten began gymnastics at the age of two because she
was extremely shy and her mother thought this would be a
good way for her to socially interact with others. Her coach
would later say, "She didn't speak to me until she was four,
but she did develop a love for the sport of gymnastics." This
love for the sport has never faded.  Through many
adversities, Krysten has maintained a love for the sport, and
she eventually would like to have a gym of her own or to be
a college coach. Today she enjoys not only working out but
coaching beginners at the gym.

After visiting many universities from Pennsylvania, across
middle American and into Utah, Krysten has chosen to
accept an
offer to become a Cougar at Brigham Young
University.   She is excited to not only be a part of an
excellent gymnastic team, but to have the opportunity to
attend a university with extremely high academic standards.
"I absolutely loved the girls at BYU! They are team oriented
and are working hard to be successful on the gym floor. I
can't wait to be a part of this great group!"

The fax machines at MISD field houses have been put to good use all morning long, as area
athletes can finally put their name on the dotted line with the arrival of National Signing Day.

In all, 27 football players and one track and field athletes made their commitments official at
ceremonies around the city. Several athletes in other sports who signed at earlier stages of the
school year were also recognized.

Among the Division I signees are Mesquite’s D.J. Marshall (Kansas), Adrian Richards (Okla. St.)
and Kelly Page (Ball St.), North Mesquite’s Daymond Patterson (Kansas), Lanear Sampson
(Baylor) and Edrick Boger (New Mexico) and Horn’s Wale Lawal (Air Force).

Horn had the largest contingent, with 10 football signees. In all, the Jaguars recognized 18
athletes in five different sports who have signed in recent months, including basketball star John
Bowman, a trio of volleyball players in Alexis Tharp, Chelcy Trejo and Heather Carter, and three
softball players—Stacy Soules, Emilee Spoerl and Mallory Mooney.

The Jaguars were also represented by Krysten Koval, one of the school district’s few signees in
gymnastics in recent memory.

Poteet’s Will Foster’s decision came down to the final weekend before the offensive lineman
chose Abilene Christian University. West Mesquite had a pair of football players sign on
Wednesday in Kenny Davis and Jonathon McCray, and is expecting a few more to receive
scholarship offers in the coming weeks.
